Birthdays and flowers...

Went to a friend's daughter's 4th birthday today; was at a beautiful park in Belmont.  Wish I had more time to sit and draw there; perhaps in the future. ^_^   Had some time to get a quick paint of the party area which was situated under a lovely tree with a glowing canopy.  Think I'm going to go back in with some ink and knock out the foreground.

Remainder of the day at my parents' place and found a little pot of theirs that brought a smile to my face.  One of my current goals is to find something each day that makes me smile and draw it.  Day 2: Success!

Time for some catch up...

Been in a funk for the past three weeks and fell well behind in my sketchbooking.  Extremely difficult to draw when sad. There's a certain joy that comes with drawing and when you simply can't find any joy... well just extremely difficult to overcome that lack of inertia.

Today was the first day in what seems like a long while that I was able to pick up that pencil again with some alacrity and knocked out four pages.  Gonna try and keep up that pace from here on out.

I enjoy drawing trees a great deal.  They're so full of life, even when they're dormant.  Life is just sleeping under the surface waiting to spring forth, anew and vibrant.  They remind me of a time not so long ago, a place I want to return to, hopefully soon.

Just seeing.

Another fun day at the Oakland zoo but didn't get nearly as much done as I wanted since it was such a hot day.  Basically would find some shade and not want to move.  Even the animals were avoiding the heat as much as possible so they were tucked away in some shady corner.  I'm loving watercolors... just color in general makes me happy. =)

Today was a nice blustery day at my parents' place so while they watched Grey I had a chance to sit and draw a bit.   It's nice sometimes how time just flies when you get into that zone.  You can turn that noisy left brain of yours off and retreat into the right and just see.

BFA Sketchbook! First couple of pages

Been having a lot of fun with my sketchbook over the summer thus far.  Got one zoo trip under the belt and been playing with watercolor quite a bit.  Picked up Weatherly's Guide to Drawing Animals so hopefully zoo trip #2 will be a breakthrough. ^_^

Below are the first few pages of my summer sketchbook so far.  Hoping to see lots of improvement over the next 100!
